Love Your EnemiesHow Decent People Can Save America From the Culture of Contempt

Ever wonder how we got to such a dysfunctional political climate? Arthur Brooks lays it out insightfully in this timely book,

Though his book was published in 2019, his concerns are accelerating and at a tipping point! Find answers to how we got here and how we can heal the political divide. Join us for an overview and discussion of Arthur Brooks’ informative and essential book!

Protests, strikes, boycotts are all useful tools in our effort to halt efforts to destroy democracy.  But, something as powerful, is the simple art of conversation in civil discourse.  Like a pebble in the pond, talk can emanate outward, bringing people into action, who might not have a bigger picture.  Talk, stories, and recognizing common ground in one another, can get us there.

At this discussion we will engage in . . .

An Overview of the book (Just in case you didn’t get the whole thing read!)

Breakout discussions on chapters that spoke to us most

Practice conversations of how to engage someone of a different political perspective

How to handle a counter protestor - bridging the divide and deescalation

How to talk to others in your own life. - (We all have at least, that one person.)

Next steps . . . A plan to implement what we have learned from Brooks in our own lives
